My Campaigns with The 19th

The Voter Dictionary is my favorite campaign I did with The 19th. The campaign featured some of the most searched words surrounding election coverage and their meaning in a carousel on social media. The purpose of this campaign was to educate our audience on terms that they may find confusing, especially during a presidential election year.

This campaign was also in collaboration with I Am A Voter who did a collaboration post with The 19th for the initial project on July 1st, 2024.

There were three iterations of this campaign. Two of them were lead by me, the third one went live after I graduated from the fellowship.

The Black History Month campaign is about Black artists who used their art to change history. This campaign featured carousels of work from Augusta Savage, Anthony Barboza, and Robert Abbott Sengstacke.

The Women’s History Month Campaign featured quotes from Black women that The 19th News Fellows use as guiding stars in their careers.

Multi-tasking mother. British-born, Jamaican stunner. Red carpet fashionista. There’s no one way to describe @jodiesmith and we are proud to have the multi-faceted queen as our April cover star! She initially caught our eye in the role of Queen in 2019’s “Queen & Slim,” but she has since shined bright on television and movie screens around the globe.

Now, the actress/model talks with us about Jamaica Carnival, her new role in “Murder Mystery 2,” and how she’s keeping Caribbean culture alive at home with her daughter.

Dazzling in grace. Shining in authenticity. Our May cover experience features none other than the poised ingénue, and newly-named Disney princess, @HalleBailey! Using her angelic voice to bring us out of the darkness and into the light, it’s no surprise that the Grammy-nominated singer is the perfect fit for Disney’s upcoming live-action rendition of “The Little Mermaid.”

Throughout our May cover experience we learn more about Halle’s rise to stardom, the timeless story of “The Little Mermaid,” and her first example of representation on the screen.

Role Social Media Coordinator

The Meta HBCU Fellowship is dedicated to current students and recent graduates of historically Black colleges.

The fellowship connected me to EBONY Magazine for a summer as a social media fellow.

Throughout the fellowship, I curated content on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn. I wrote captions for social posts and branded campaigns. I even made new templates for the newsroom to use.

This led to a position with EBONY.

Lede New Orleans is a newsroom that equips emerging creatives with skills, tools, and resources to transform local news in New Orleans, LA.

I was a 2020 fellow for the company at the beginning of the pandemic, which caused our fellowship to be remote. Ultimately, I reported on articles about race, creatives, and community in quarantine.

One of my favorite stories from this fellowship was an article covering the racial peaceful protests during the height of COVID-19.
